We decide to breed the goat because, it require low initial capital investment, fit the small-hold farm conditions, multiply fast. Goat eats tree leaves, grasses, weeds, and agricultural by-products. In addition, goats require less feed than cows and buffalo. Although the size of goat is small, it can produce as much as four litres of milk a day if she is purebred and is given a ration to meet all of her nutritional requirements. Furthermore, it is usual to have triplet or twins in every birth of goat. From all these reasons, we think that this business is a very good investment.
After did some research, we interested to breed 2 types of goat which are Boer and Jamnapari. Boer Goat, or more popularly termed as Kambing Boer in Malaysia is tipped to become a backbone in the goat farming activity and plays an important role in driving the agriculture sector. Boer originating from the African region and is said to be mixed of European, Angora and Indian. Boer breeding is normally aimed at the production of meat rather that its milk, and its meat is arguably the most well known of all the goat meats in the world today. We choose to breed the Boer because it’s low calorie and cholesterol, but rich in protein and it relatively high immunity towards diseases. Jamnapri is another type of goat which is famous in Malaysia. Jamnapari is originated from the frontier of India and Pakistan. Jamnapari is famous with its large and graceful body. Male Jamnapari is weighted up to 120kg while the female is up to 90kg. Opposite from Boer breeding, Jamnapri breeding is normally aimed at the production of milk although its meat also good. Jamnapari has high reproduction rate and suitable for tropical weather. It means that Jamnapari is less prone to sickness in tropical countries like Malaysia. From all these reasons, we choose to breed Jamnapari and Boer.
However, when we want to start the business, we think we might have a problem in getting the capital. Again, after doing some research we found our worried to get the loan is totally rejected. Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said the government is increasing Agrobank which also known as Bank Pertanian Malaysia’s paid up capital from RM 42.5 million to RM 1 billion reported by EntrepreNet in one of its article. The government also established schemes and provided funds for lending to the agricultural sector. These incentives usually take the forms of low interest rate, longer duration of financing and higher margin of financing. Currently, as far as our company knows, there are 3 such funds given out by both commercial banks and development financial institutions. These are Fund for Food (3F), Fund for Small and Medium Scale Industries and Fund for Rehabilitation of Small and Medium Scale Industries. The only bank need is just a piece of land and a little amount of capital to make sure you can build up the barn and serious in starting the business. Furthermore, government also provide other facilities like research goat hub, research in biotechnology and many more. According to the Timesonline, it was reported that there is plan for a RM10 million goat technology and research centre in Marang. The move is intended at Malaysia achieving self-reliance in mutton as the country needs 10 millions goat a year. In addition, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badwi also announces that sum of RM 5.6 billion is provided under the National Food Security Policy and this allocation is to provide incentives to agriculture entrepreneurs during budget 2009.
In conclusion, after finish our research about the market and agriculture industry; our company thinks that we should start to joint this industry. We believe that with a proper control and advice from the relevant parties, we can succeed in this business and can be one of the examples for the youth who think that this business is “unglamorous and no future”
